You're probably thinking--where is Tif and what have you done with her? It's been YEARS since she's posted twice in one week.
I assure you, it's still me! As I had mentioned a couple of posts ago, the winter was long. I dug into a pretty extensive revision in December, but it all didn't really come together until a couple of months ago, and well...I'm done! But before I get into that, let's do this What's Up Wednesday post in correct order.
(What's Up Wednesday is the brainchild of Jaime Morrow and Erin Funk, a great way to summarize the week in sections. For the next few weeks, I will be using this format for Ready, Set, Write: a summer writing intensive. You can read more about it here: )
What I'm Reading:
I'm about 60% in and it's SO.GOOD. Multiple points of view. First and third person. Great world building (quite frightening actually). Romance and relationships. I admittedly have been reading this under my covers, thanks to my iPhone. It's scarier that way. (Yes, I'm a geek.)
Next up: JUST ONE DAY by Gayle Foreman
What I'm Writing:
I nugged it out this winter. Dug my heels in and revised. And now, months later, I have a manuscript that's so much more beautiful.
This was an important season for me. As with most writers, I'm not writing in a vacuum. We have our outside lives: families, obligations, jobs. Novel-writing is long, so arduous, that I had to re-look at my priorities. Where did writing fall? What did I sacrifice because of it? What am I willing to change to make my dreams happen? Can I handle the heart break?
The verdict: this is my path and this is what I want. This is my Mount Kilimanjaro and I don't want to climb it once, but multiple times. I'm going to trip. I may even slide down that mountain a few feet, and it's okay. But it's up I go.
So...there it is, my entire winter in about seven sentences. And the picture above is my prize. I rounded up the last of my revisions yesterday, and I danced a little jig. I made myself a hot mug of tea and I pat myself on the back, literally.
Because I did it. I fought the demon that reared its head this winter. Eff him.
What Else I'm Up To:
I finished something crafty. I know! Are we in the Twilight Zone, or what?
A redwork cross-stitch for a dear neighbor. She's the kind that makes extra of something when she knows you love it. Last night in fact, she sent over grilled salmon--just because.
I will be sad when she moves. When is the operative word here, because we live on a military post. *sighs*
What Inspires Me:
Team Defiance, YA Bucaneers, 5amWritersClub. My critique partners.
The movie Dirty Dancing, which I've watched twelve times since December.
And I cry every single time.
All the feels. All the love in this movie.
I hope you all have a wonderful holiday weekend (if you celebrate Easter). Wishing you small victories. Enjoy them!
