I have never been without my Godsister...in spirit anyway. I don't have a sister, and neither does she, and our parents made sure we spent a good portion of our childhood together.
But she isn't any ol' ordinary Godsister...she is the one that tempted me out of my comfort zone. I am a goody-twoshoes at heart, I would have to say, and she could be classified as a daredevil. For example, it was she who decided for us to ride our bikes through and away from a pack of wild dogs when we were children. "We can go faster," she said. And I believed her.
She also convinced me to climb down from my parent's 2 story home's unfinished balcony. She and her brothers climbed out and then coerced me to climb down the retaining wall. "Don't worry!" she said. I believed her then.
She also managed to make me think I could reach a piece of fruit from a tree if I climbed onto her knee and hands. "You can do it", she said then too. I believed her again. I fell that time.
Now, lest you think she was mischievous, well, she was!, but she has a heart that is true. In the years we have known each other, I have yet to think of a moment when it hasn't been authentic. I challenge anyone to find a person in their life who can provide this, and I am sure that it is very few. Authentic friendships conquer time and distance. And she is my Sister, though not in blood, but in spirit.
This Sister of mine is getting married. Since the Army has taken us so far away from home, I can only come home in time to see her wed. As much as I want to chat and catch up, reality will have me leave soon after her nuptials and more time will pass. But I hope her wedding tote will remind her that I wish her every special moment her day will offer.
I made it with a cotton linen eyelet. As soon as I saw it I thought of her immediately. A flower in the front and a vintage blue button, her "something blue". A hard removable bottom to keep things in check inside, and a tie closure, just for fun. It looks wrinkled, but cotton linen is not a crisp fabric, despite ironing.
Enjoy it C! I love you!
