Wow! Eight weeks of Ready, Set, Write! *pours drinks*
What's Up Wednesday is the brainchild of Jaime Morrow and Erin Funk, a great way to summarize the week in sections. For the next few weeks, I will be using this format for Ready, Set, Write: a summer writing intensive. You can read more about it here:
What I'm Reading:
Finally finished up THE MOON AND MORE last week. I was quite surprised at the ending! Not quite the HEA I look forward to, not in the usual Sarah Dessen way. But I am and will always be a fan of her writing. It hits that part of me that Judy Blume touches. If I had grown up reading Sarah Dessen I wouldn't have felt so strange a teenager. It gives me great comfort that my children have so many young adult books to turn to...the happy in between that can address their questions, their feelings, and really, their curiosity.
About a hundred pages into CREWEL. The world building has started to pick up for me and wow, what a great concept. Love it.
Oh, and I wanted to show off my library haul.
Are you ready?
I mean, this tops my haul the 6th week of RSW.
No, really. You must understand that this is a tiny Army post in the middle of the country.
So, I've got a great selection to read these next few weeks. Hopefully, it will push me through to the rest of my revisions. (See What I'm Writing)
What I'm Writing:
(no picture this time)
Boy, oh boy. I'm in the middles...page 162 to be exact. Smack in the middle and I am going very very slowly. Much of it is my schedule, which has picked up with my daytime life. (no complaints!) School is starting up in a couple of weeks here and the build up of all of this has begun, in addition to some extracurriculars and volunteerism and such.
A part of me wants to barrel through this revision, but I'm not sure that's a good idea in this stage. This won't be my last pass--it's my second to the last--and it's really gotta count. Double-y. Triple-y, in fact. I'm seriously getting excited. I'm not scared, not this time around, and that's weird for me. Usually I'm a ball of neurotic energy. (ask anyone who's spoken to me)
The plan is to finish revisions by next week. :)
What Else I'm Up To:
We have some work/family events coming up and the party planning has been so much fun.
I've decided not to go into it alone, however, and asked a talented lady to help me with the little things that make a party special. I left it up to the expert this time. Frankly, I'm done with trying to do it all, aren't you? No Pinterest party here in our home. It's about practicality and not sweating when the guests come.
It's having a drink with everyone when they get here. It's having my hair and make up done, and not worried if the napkins match the straws.
It's about sharing our home and our family.
What Inspires Me
Had a dose of art last weekend. Ah, and I needed it so!
We are family of museum-fanatics, and when we found out that there was a Kahlo/Rivera exibition a couple of hours away, we packed up our littles and got there.
To say the exhibition was stunning is an understatement by horrific proportions. I almost cried being so close to a Kahlo painting. It was surreal. Her pain, suffering and love is so evident with each brush stroke. Her depiction of herself is almost unnerving. It really cuts to the heart of how we may see ourselves. Her paintings and drawings are not that lipstick/gloss/shiny beautiful. They are so real, they show how tough it is to survive our own demons.
Oy, I could go on for days. Hubby had to tear me away. My children were fantastic in the museum, thank goodness. I think they saw how much it meant to me.
I've had a wonderful week, and I hope you have too!
