*hugs my writing peeps*
What's Up Wednesday is the brainchild of Jaime Morrow and Erin Funk, a great way to summarize the week in sections. For the next few weeks, I will be using this format for Ready, Set, Write: a summer writing intensive. You can read more about it here:
What I'm Reading
I'm about third of the way through and I can't seem to put it down. I love Smith's voice in this book: the long sentences, the flow of the storyline, the back and forth of memories and flashbacks.
Since my last post, I read THE PROGRAM (yessss) and REBOOT (yessss). Needless to say, I haven't gone without some good reading.
What I'm Writing
I can't believe we're at the end of Ready, Set, Write. These last twelve weeks of goal setting and accountability was tough, and I was challenged. Immensely. Lots of tears getting through this manuscript, lots of doubts, and then ultimately just facing this computer (and myself) each and every day.
I'm full of melodrama aren't I? You're probably wondering how I'm going to survive querying--and publishing--with this kind of thin skin, but I'm just being real. I know there are more obstacles up ahead, and it scares me, but I also consider today a triumph. Emotional whiplash, that's the road we writers have chosen.
Ultimately, I wanted to share that I have jumped into the query trenches again. One of my dear #5amwritersclub buddies, Kip, kids that querying is much like feeling just nauseous all the time, and I am now proudly gagging every chance I get. I'm just thankful to have such kindred spirits who understand.
Because this whole thing of trying to get published is such a long process (just like this blog post, apparently), I've decided not to mention it again. That I'm querying, that is. I wanted to mention it today because Ready, Set, Write brought me to this point and I credit this intensive for pushing my work pace. But yeah, after this post, I'm going to pretend I never told you. Is that okay? I put enough pressure on myself.
Instead, I've decided to make a love list. Read more about what began the love list among young adult authors.
A bucket love list. (Shot out to you, Kip!)
Just some on this list:
Gigi, Rider, Everett, Senior
crepe myrtle trees, basketball, microphone
Cinderella, knight, two-step, deviled eggs
chickens, bicycle pegs, treehouse
What Else I'm Up To:
Is it just me who does this at the beginning of each year?
My name is Tif and I'm a binder user. I also love clear sheet protectors and using pencils down to their nubs. And of course those cute little eraser/pencil toppers and different colored Post-Its. And Sharpies.
What were we talking about?
Oh yes, my disorganized brain...and this is why I am taking time sorting out my life.
What WHO Inspires Me:
The crew who brought us Ready, Set, Write:
Thank you for a great intensive, for keeping up the pats on the back, the nightly writing spints on Twitter, and for pushing for goals no matter how short we might have come to reach it. In my case, these last twelve weeks gave me more than I could've imagined. To think we'd just moved to a new state. AND STILL...
I have a book I'm proud of.
In the grand scheme of what could happen or not happen tomorrow. Should this be or not be the book that reaches library shelves. If I didn't write another word tomorrow, the last twelve weeks brought me this.
Thanks, Ladies! **kisses, hugs and chocolate**
